◎ He focuses on clinical and basic research in corneal diseases, cataracts and refractive surgery. He has performed more than 40,000 complicated cataract surgeries and nearly 10,000 corneal transplant surgeries.

◎ He improved the technique of endothelial keratoplasty, pioneered femtosecond laser corneal transplantation in China and formulated the first surgical specifications for this procedure. He innovatively proposed subepithelial corneal collagen cross-linking, which reduced postoperative pain and infection rate. He originated endothelial keratoplasty without Descemetorhexis, greatly simplifying the operation. He was the first internationally to apply continuous conjunctival sac irrigation in the treatment of fungal keratitis. He also created a cataract surgery technique using the anterior lens capsule to protect the corneal endothelium. He conducted research on ocular parameters of Chinese high myopia patients and summarized the characteristics of ocular parameters in Chinese young people. He established a high myopia intraocular lens power calculation formula named after him (LSW1 Formula), which has been widely adopted.

◎ 改进了角膜内皮移植手术方法，在国内率先开展了飞秒激光角膜移植手术并首先制定了飞秒激光角膜移植手术规范；创新性提出了上皮瓣下角膜胶原交联技术，减少了患者的术后疼痛，降低了术后感染率；创造性地提出了不撕除后弹力膜的内皮移植术，大大简化了该手术方式；国际上首次将结膜囊持续灌洗法用于真菌性角膜炎治疗等。国际首创晶体前囊膜保护角膜内皮的白内障手术技术；对中国高度近视人群的眼参数进行研究，总结出了中国青年人群的眼参数特点；创建了以自己名字命名的高度近视人工晶状体度数测算公式（LSW1公式)并得到广泛采用。
